Independent destination journalCancún lies in northern Quintana Roo on Mexico’s Caribbean coast. Its Hotel Zone follows Kukulcán Boulevard between beaches, hotels, restaurants and Nichupté Lagoon. It is the destination’s best-known image, but only one part of the story.
Downtown Cancún has markets, neighbourhood restaurants and the daily life of a working city. Farther north, Puerto Juárez is a gateway to Isla Mujeres. Cancún also has a Maya heritage: the Museo Maya, San Miguelito and the El Rey archaeological site offer a view beyond its modern tourism infrastructure.
The Hotel Zone is only one part of the city. These areas offer different ways to explore.
